The crosshairs are precisely cut on water cooled CNC machine. The unprotected metal is vulnerable to moisture and if it’s not properly protected It will become rusty. That’s why we sandblast the sheets just before painting. After that we are treating it with a layer of black body filler. It fills rough surface caused by the sandblasting. Surface becomes smooth with a good black base. Second layer is black satin finish and the third and last layer is a clear polish which protects the paint from the heat caused by the bulb inside of the headlight.
How to install ?
Installing the black hella set is quite easy procedure, requiring about 20 minutes for each headlight.
Things that you need :
– oven
– small flat screw driver
– pliers
– black silicone sealant (used usually for head or oil pan gaskets)
Let’s get started.
1. Remove headlights from the holder.
2. Remove the plactic clips used for adjusting bolts.
3. Remove the chrome rings just by pushing them using a bit of force.
4. Adjust the oven to 200C (400F) and put headlights inside for 10-15 minutes. (I personally use standart tray with a sheet of cooking paper) . Brotip 101 – your wife better not seeing this …

5. After taking them out stick the flat screwdriver between the metal body and the glass on the mark placed on the bottom part of the headlight.(6h) Use the screwdriver as a lever and try to pull out the glass gently.
6. Do the same thing on the opposing site (12h).
7.Now the glass should easily come off.
8. Since they are 4 different brands producing headlights for BMW ,it might be needed to remove the fixing legs on the metal sheets just by cutting them out with the pliers. (as in my case).
9.Wipe the reflector carefully with dry napkin. Put the crosshair inside of the headlight.
10.Wipe the glass from the inside and put it back on the headlight.
11.It should fit perfectly (If it’s not – the crosshair is probably tilted to one side).
12.Seal the border with the black silicone and let it dry for about 12 hours.
After that you are ready to reassemble headlights to the holders.
