With heart filled with sorrow, I’m announcing and putting on the market my beloved s54 swapped widowmaker e28.
Life goes on, and right now some other things and projects are taking my time and i think I’ll no longer be able to give her the deserved attention, so I’m thinking it is time to find her a better home. The car has been an E28Goodies flagman since day one. It has been through a lot of modifications.
I’m not quitting the e28 game, but looking for more family orientated car for the moment.
Brief description of the car:
Exterior.
Freshly resprayed body in e36 “Estoril blau”. Complete oem m tech package – front & rear bumper, side skirts, fender flares and rear spoiler. Front & rear clear turn signals, brand new fog lights made by ZKW, very good set of headlights, lights grills and kidney grills – no chrome peeling or cracked lenses. Set of deep dish borbet Bs with 225/45/17 tires with lot of life on them.
Car originally was equipped with casual clear windows, but they were replaced with a set of OEM tinted in green, also the manual radio antenna was replaced with electrical BMW OEM Hirschmann antenna. Polished door handles.
Interior.
Genuine recaro LXD front seats reupholstered in blue fabric to match the interior. Few e28s and e21s came from the factory with pair of those. Leather reupholstered dashboard, clean and working cluster with early style “green marking” tachometer fitted with correct coding plug to read the the new engine. Rear manual BMW OEM sunblind. Original Bavaria C radio was replaced with BMW Reverse RDS out of e34 with an aux cable. Front manual window cranks were replaced with BMW oem power windows. e28goodies cupholder installed (ashtray replacement). Locking glovebox. e28goodies wooden knob and tartan shifter fabric. Brand new e28goodies floor mats and trunk mat.
Engine, clutch, transmission and final drive.
Super clean and nice S54B32 swap with an e28goodies engine mounts. Engine was sourced from crashed BMW e46 m3 (343hp) with 80k miles on the clock (car was imported from UK) and remapped ecu. Engine was maintained very well. New waterpump, thermostat, belts, tensioners, spark plugs and oil. Castrol 10w60. K&N big cone filter. Rod bearings and rod bolts was replaced on 68k by the previous owner. Oil cooler installed behind the kidney grills. Brand new e36 318tds automatic radiator and brand new fan clutch. Gearbox plugs on the radiator are used for the steering fluid cooling. Brand new SASCH clutch, pressure plate and bearing driven less than 20k kms. ZF 5 speed gearbox out of e39 528i with a new oil. Big prop shaft out of e28 535i (large guibo), reinforced drive shaft bearing, LSD (shperr) sourced from very low mileage car with 3.25 gear ratio and new oil Castrol 75-140 LSD. Differential is in great condition, locks like new. Car have the biggest and the thicker axle shafts available for e28. Again few cars came from the factory with them and that was the late 87′ 524TD . Car have fitted and installed ac fan from e36 328i for emergency cooling, driven by thermo switch on the radiator. e28goodies shortshifter. Bosch 044 equivalent fuel pump made by magneti marelli. The original s54 exhaust manifold used and custom stainless “2 pipes” exhaust system was built with 4 resonators and e28goodies 2x63mm muffler.
Suspension.
Brand new front Boge and rear Monroe sensatrack shock absorbers with new drive guides and dust guards, combined with the stiffer e28goodies 60/40 springs. Brand new front trust arms, link stabilizers and tie rods (less than 30k kms on them). Completely rebuilt rear axle out of e28 535i. Sandblasted, powdercoated in black and installed the e28goodies rear axle polyurethane bushes kit. The biggest, reinforced trailing arms with 44mm inserts. brand new pitman arms and rear stabilizer links made by lemforder. BMW OEM towing hitch in-trunk reinforcements – a bar that sits behind the rear panel and 2 links connected with the panel of the top of the trunk.
Brakes.
Because of the S54 swap car was converted from vacuum to hydrobooster braking assist system.
Completely rebuilt hydrobooster with “the everything – e28goodies hydrobooster rebuild kit”, brand new “bomb”. Complete conversion to e34 brakes – 302 mm rotors on the front with 60 mm calipers and 300mm rotors on the back with the largest 38mm calipers. For this build brand new Textar rotors and pads were used (again less than 30k kms on them).
Conclusion.
Rides smooth and firm. Well maintained but never ending project. Car got some imperfections but nothing to worry about. For example :
The s54 ECU is located in the glovebox and is a mess of cables – i was planning to do that in the winter and will do if car remain unsold. B pillar trim covers got some peeled leather need to be glued or the whole thing to be replaced and the fluffy stuff on the front door seals are peeling here and there. Vehicle paperworks are all set. Papers from the engine donor e46 m3 are available and in my possession. Price is firm and would be negotiable only in terms to cover your trip expenses. Test driving is possible only if valid driving license is presented (5 years of experience at least – im not going to risk anybody’s life by giving 350+ hp car that slides sideway in a blink of an eye to someone i don’t know) and placing 100% deposit . if you crash it – you buy it. Otherwise ill be driving till the car is sold.
